Where to Travel in September? Where Top Instagrammers Visited Last Year.

Summer is a great time to relax and enjoy the weather. Unfortunately, it is also a peak time to travel during the year, which means you’re going to be paying a premium for those plane tickets. As fall approaches us, however, travel season typically sees a decline during this time, which means you can visit some great locations at a far more reasonable price.

That only leaves one question: Where?

If you’re on Instagram and travel the world for a living, you could potentially go anywhere, so why not look to Instagram to see where top travel Instagrammers traveled in September of last year?

1) Venice, Italy

There are so many ways to travel today: by car, bus, train, plane. Most of us have experienced these at one time or another, but how many of us can say they have traveled by gondola?

The beauty of Venice was meant to be enjoyed, so what better way to do that then a slow, gentle ride on a gondola as experienced by Tara Whiteman (@taramilktea) here?

You could go during the day and enjoy the architecture, but there’s something magical about experiencing it during the night:

Of course, there’s more to Venice than gondolas. The architecture is exquisite. You could check out St. Mark’s Basilica, San Marco Campanile, and Doges Palace. No matter where you look, there’s beauty everywhere. Here are 28 things to do in Venice, Italy.

2) Venice, California

Ok, maybe gondolas aren’t your thing…

Want to switch climates without flying halfway across the world? Why not have a September California vacation? Now that summer is finally over, you don’t have to worry about the hassle of large crowds. You can enjoy the warm beach weather and relax instead.

When he needed a break from traveling to exotic locations, Louis Cole (@funforlouis) decided to make Venice his home base while he got back to basics.

With great people, great weather, and great scenery, Venice, California is a great way to unwind and take the edge off of your workweek, and if that’s not enough, here are 25 fun things to do on your trip when you get there.

3) New York, New York

As long as we’re thinking about vacation spots in the US, why not check out the east side?

Melissa Hie (@girlatworld) could have gone anywhere last September, so the fact that she chose New York is a testament to how great a city it is. If you do visit the city, one place on everybody’s bucket list is Time’s Square:

Once you cross that off, the city has much to offer in terms of food. If you love authentic Chinese food but don’t have the money to fly to China, take a trip to the Chinatown in Flushing, Queens instead.

Even @taramilktea sees the beauty of the city.

Or if you love burgers, check out Mike Chen’s review on the best burgers in NYC.

What would a great city be without some awesome landmarks to visit? You could see the iconic Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building, maybe walk along the Brooklyn Bridge, or take a stroll in Central Park. No matter who you are, there’s something for everyone in New York.

4) Byron Bay, Australia

Well, that’s enough local travel spots. Let’s set our sights down under.

If you love water and want to experience what it’s like to live on the coast, Byron Bay in New South Wales is the place for you

Here we see Jessica Stein (@tuulavintage) surrounding herself with the things she loves: great weather, a majestic view, and her child. Balancing work and parenthood is anything but easy, but Jessica’s Instagram post shows that these are the moments you live for.

Byron Bay is great for those who love to state into the ocean and lose themselves in its rhythm. Cape Byron State Conservation Park has a lighthouse where humpback whales can be seen around this time of the year. It’s also known for its many scuba sites, beaches, and surfing sites.

Here are 39 fun things you can do while visiting Byron Bay.

5) Santorini, Greece

When you think of Greece, what typically comes to mind? Democracy? Socrates?  Ancient pillars? How about some beautiful scenery in Santorini?

Here is Jennifer Tuffen (@izkiz) enjoying her life as she explores the town of Oia. The natural beauty surrounding her is amazing. The rustic décor of the whitewashed, cubiform houses is perfect for those that want to get away on vacation but don’t want the hassles of a big city.
