Terms of service
The short version. Vouch for people you would actually put your name behind. Do not buy, sell or trade reputation. Do not spam the room. What you say about somebody else becomes part of their record, so mean it.
1. What this is
Furlough is a reputation record for a community of marketers, founders, operators and freelancers. Using furlough.com, phidao.com or the Discord server means you accept these terms. You must be 18 or over.
2. Your account
One account per person. Keep control of whatever you sign in with — anyone who can reach your Discord, Google, email or wallet can reach your account. Tell us at joe@furlough.com if you think somebody has.
Signing in with Discord requires membership of the Furlough server. The other doors create an account that is not in the server until you link one.
3. Reputation
This is the part that makes the rest of it work.
- Vouch honestly. A vouch says you know somebody and rate them. Give one where that is true and not where it is not.
- Reputation cannot be bought, sold, traded or transferred. Not between members, not for money, not for a vouch back. Arrangements to vouch for each other without the underlying judgement are the thing this product exists to prevent.
- Credentials are permanent and they carry your name. There is no withdraw button. What you give somebody becomes part of their record too, which is why we will not delete it later just because you have changed your mind.
- φ, Phi Power, standing and badges are computed, never assigned. They are not a currency, not a security, and we make no promise that they are worth anything or will continue to exist in their current form.
- We may revoke a credential, a badge or an account where it was obtained dishonestly.
4. What you post
Your profile, your answers, your work history and your messages stay yours. You give us permission to store and display them as part of running the site — nothing more, and that permission ends for anything we delete at your request.
Say things that are true. Do not post anything unlawful, do not impersonate anyone, do not post somebody else’s private information, and do not claim work or credentials that are not yours.
5. Messages
You can message members you have a handshake with. Anyone else gets one message, which lands in their requests for them to accept or decline. That limit is deliberate. Working around it — mass messaging, repeat requests after a decline, or using the directory as a mailing list — will cost you the account.
6. Features being tested
phidao.com runs unfinished features, including the Academy, the DAO, the Exchange and the character system. They are in test. Data created in them may be reset without notice, and nothing in them should be treated as a real financial or contractual arrangement unless we have told you in writing that it is live.
7. Ending it
You can leave at any time — write to joe@furlough.com and see the privacy policy for what happens to your data. We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms, and we will say why.
8. No warranty
Furlough is provided as it is. We do not verify what members say about themselves — the profile marks member-stated claims as exactly that — and a vouch is somebody’s opinion, not a reference we stand behind. Do your own diligence before you hire, pay or work with anyone you met here.
9. Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or loss arising from dealings between members. Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury or fraud.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. The state and federal courts located in Florida have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to them, and you agree to that jurisdiction and venue.
If you are a consumer resident in the UK or the EU, this does not take away rights you have under the mandatory law of the country you live in, or your right to bring a claim in your local courts.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in the Discord server, not slipped past by changing the date at the top.
